About Julien

French pastry master Julien Plumart grew up in the foothills of the French Alps, helping out at his family’s restaurant from a young age. Regular patisserie visits with his mother cemented his decision to become a pastry chef at the age of 15, and over subsequent decades he trained at different pastry schools, cooked as a private chef in St Tropez, and worked for celebrated French chef Raymond Blanc.

Julien dropped anchor in Brighton in 2004, opened his first café four years later, and today continues to push boundaries to deliver outstanding patisserie and unrivalled customer service to loyal locals and out-of-town visitors alike. Reaching the final of Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off: The Professionals in 2021 was a career highlight.

“Bake Off was an amazing experience,” he says. “I wanted to take part to show the world what we at Julien Plumart are made of, and to display the diversity of our skills. We achieved this, but our quest for perfection continues – and will never end.”

Visit Julien Plumart Cafe

Located halfway between the train station and the beach, Julien Plumart is a little slice of France in the heart of Brighton. The elegant, intimate café is the perfect spot to escape the bustling city and enjoy world-class patisserie while watching the pastry chefs at work, whether it’s for breakfast with colleagues, brunch with friends, a romantic date or a special-occasion afternoon tea. Everything on the menu can be taken away to enjoy at home, too.

From award-winning pastries to intricate French patisserie, macarons, savouries and celebration cakes, everything is made by hand from scratch every single day, using the best ingredients available and following classic, tried-and-tested recipes – always with a playful Julien Plumart twist which customers have come to know and love.

Here at Julien Plumart, we are passionate about what we do. Do come to see us if you’re in Brighton – we hope you leave our café with unforgettable memories of a truly wonderful patisserie experience.

Nicest macarons I ever had. Bought 8 and I had to go back the next day for more.
